Joscelyn Eve Stoker (born 11 April 1987), best known by her stage name Joss Stone, is a Brit Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated English soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and occasional actress.

Biography

Stone was born in Dover, Kent, England, and spent her teenage years in Ashill, Devon. She grew up listening to a wide variety of music including R&B and soul music performed by such artists as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin; as a result, she developed a soulful style of singing like her idols.

At 14, she appeared on Star for a Night on BBC Television singing Franklin's 1967 "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". She told MTV News, "I kind of clicked into soul music more than anything else because of the vocals. You've got to have good vocals to sing soul music and I always liked it ever since I was little."

In 2002, she decided to back her ability by flying out from England for an audition in New York City with S-Curve CEO Steve Greenberg. She also signed a global music publishing deal with BMG Music Publishing in the UK.At one point she sang backup for Britney Spears.


Since then, she has performed with such artists as Blondie and Gladys Knight. She was named as the spokesperson for the megastore Gap, although she was reportedly dropped because of rumours of her living with Beau Dozier (son of record producer, Lamont Dozier), while she was only 17 (Beau was born in 1979, thus 8 years older than her).

Eragon

Stone will make her film debut in the fantasy epic Eragon, based on the same-titled novel, which will be released on 15 December 2006. In the film, Stone plays the witch Angela.

Kurkova was born in Děčín, Czechoslovakia to a Czech father and a Slovak mother. She had an early insight into what life would be celebrities, because her father, Josef Kurka, was a star basketball player. As a child, her height made it relatively difficult and gangly, but that could all change with age. A good friend recognized her beauty and sent photos of Kurkova to an agency in Prague.

Olga Kurylenko was born in Berdyansk, Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine) on November 14, 1979 to a Russian mother and Ukrainian father. When Olga was three years old her parents separated, allowing her to be raised by her mother. Olga rarely had contact with her father, to meet him for the first time when she was 8 years old, and again later when she was 13.


She was discovered by a female model scout while on holiday in Moscow at the age of thirteen. When she was 17 she signed a contract with the Paris-based modeling agency Madison. By the age of 18 years she had already appeared on the covers of Vogue and Elle.
